CREEPING BENTGRASS

In commemoration of the 2020 centennial anniversary of the Green Section, the USGA has partnered with Rutgers University and Mountain View Seeds to develop and release two unique new bentgrass varieties: Piper and Oakley.
Named in honor of the original USGA Green Section agronomists, Dr. Charles Piper and Dr. Russell Oakley; Piper and Oakley embodies the USGA Green Section commitment of continued variety development for improved sustainability in golf. Bred by Dr. Stacy Bonos at Rutgers University, Piper and Oakley will provide golf course superintendents not only the best traits available, but also a connection to the legacy of greatness in golf course agronomy.

PIPER

CREEPING BENTGRASS

Piper Creeping Bentgrass is the latest generation top performing Bentgrass to meet your needs on Greens, Tee’s and Fairway’s! Piper exhibits excellent resistance to Dollar Spot and Brown Patch. This variety performs in the top NTEP group for each Spring, Summer and Fall Density trials and holds up to traffic stress. Piper has minimal thatch and canopy puffiness, making this an exceptional putting green surface. The extensive breeding pedigree on Piper makes it an excellent choice for a high end versatile Bentgrass as a standalone or in the premiere Centennial Blend.

OAKLEY

CREEPING BENTGRASS

Oakley Creeping Bentgrass is the next generation of greatness in Bentgrass cultivars, topping the charts in the latest NTEP for both Greens and Fairways/Tees! Oakley shows strong seedling vigor and has a beautiful medium green color. The versatility of strengths makes this a standout variety, Dollar spot resistance, fine leaf texture and density throughout the entire playing season. Oakley is excellent as a standalone variety due to a diverse breeding background or together with Piper in the premium Centennial Blend.

PIRANHA

CREEPING BENTGRASS

Piranha is a new, ultra dense creeping bentgrass variety developed specifically to tolerate heat and a number of other stressors that destroy most bentgrass. Piranha has excellent resistance to dollar spot as well as brown patch.

BARRACUDA

Latest generation genetics! Upright and aggressive with improved dollar spot resistance. Top quality group in current NTEP Green AND Fairway trials with leading scores in texture, greenup, and frost tolerance as well.

SHARK

Aggressive, bright dark green color, with high shoot density. More upright. Improved summer performance and disease resistance, particularly to dollar spot and take all patch.

AU VICTORY

CREEPING BENTGRASS

AU Victory is a new creeping bentgrass variety developed with a “tough love” and “survival of the fittest” approach. A collection of survivors from putting greens during prolonged summer droughts were evaluated based on appearance and turf quality. AU Victory has quick establishment, high shoot density and good color. Turf quality remains strong after late summer stress periods and has quick recovery.

MUSKET

COLONIAL BENTGRASS

Musket Colonial Bentgrass is quick to recover in the spring and greens up faster. Musket was developed from germplasm that has improved summer performance providing excellent Brown Patch resistance.

MVS

PREMIUM BENTGRASS

Aggressive, bright dark green color, with high shoot density. More upright. Improved summer performance and disease resistance, particularly to dollar spot and take all patch.
